Lemonade is the most popular cold drink worldwide. It is made from lemon juice, water, and sweeteners like sugar or honey. Lemonade can be served fresh or as a pre-made mix. It is a refreshing beverage, especially during hot weather. One glass of this cold drink gives you full freshness and feels very good on a hot day.
Sometimes, it is made with a small amount of fruit juice, such as cranberry, raspberry, or strawberry. For pink or blue lemonade, food coloring is used. The flavor is similar to traditional lemonade but with a slight fruity twist when food coloring is added.
Origin of Lemonade
A lemon-based drink originated in ancient Egypt around 1000 AD. The drink, called “Qatarmizat,” was made of lemons, dates, and honey.
In the medieval period, lemonade spread to Europe. By the 13th century, it had spread to the Middle East from Europe and became popular in Paris in the 17th century.
Lemonade became more refined and commercialized in Europe, particularly in Paris, where vendors sold it on the streets. The first recorded lemonade stand was in Paris in 1676 by a company called “Compagnie de Limonadiers.”
How to Make Lemonade
Making lemonade is very easy, whether at home or anywhere. Step by step, I will show you how to make perfect lemonade with just a few ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 4-6 lemons
- 1 cup of sugar
- 5 cups of water
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves
- Lemon slices
First Step (Prepare the Lemons):
Start by washing the lemons thoroughly to remove any dirt. Then, cut the lemons in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. You can use a lemon squeezer or do it by hand. Lastly, make sure to remove the seeds.
Second Step (Make the Simple Syrup):
In a small pot, mix one cup of sugar with one cup of water. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. Once dissolved, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool. This mixture, called simple syrup, will sweeten your lemonade.
Third Step (Mix the Lemonade):
In a large pot, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the simple syrup.
Add 4 cups of cold water to the pot and stir well to mix everything together.
Final Step (Taste and Adjust):
Taste the lemonade to see if it is sweet enough for your liking. If it’s too strong, add more water. If it’s not sweet enough, you can add a little more sugar or simple syrup.
Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the lemonade over the ice. If you like, garnish with fresh mint leaves or lemon slices. Coffee Twister, Milkshake, Smoothie, Virgin Mojito, and Mocktails are also non-alcoholic cold drinks.”
