How to Make Turkish Coffee

If you want to make Turkish coffee, you can easily prepare it at home. Turkish coffee is enjoyed in many countries and is known for its unique brewing method. Here’s a simple guide on how to make Turkish coffee at home.

Ingredients and Tools

  • Finely Ground Coffee: You need very finely ground coffee, almost like powder.
  • Water: Fresh, normal water.
  • Sugar: Optional, but traditional Turkish coffee can be sweetened.
  • Turkish Coffee Pot (Cezve) or Automatic Machine: A small, long-handled pot.
  • Small Coffee Cups: These are smaller than regular coffee cups.

Step 1: Measure the Water

Use the coffee cup to measure the water. For each cup of coffee, pour one cup of water into the coffee pot (cezve). If you are using an automatic coffee machine, there is no need to measure the water. Machines have a water reservoir that you can fill.

Step 2: Add the Coffee

For each cup of coffee, add two teaspoons of finely ground coffee into the Turkish coffee pot (cezve) or the machine.

Step 3: Sweeten (Optional)

If you like sweet coffee, add sugar now. For slightly sweet coffee, add one teaspoon of sugar. For medium sweetness, add two teaspoons, and for very sweet coffee, add three teaspoons. If you are using a cezve, stir to dissolve the sugar. If you are using a machine, there is no need to stir, as the machine will handle it.

Step 4: Heat the Coffee

Place the coffee pot (cezve) on low heat. Stir the coffee mixture until it starts to warm up, but do not stir after it begins to heat. If using a machine, the process is automatic, and no further action is required.

Step 5: Watch for Foam

As the coffee heats, foam will form on the surface. Just before it boils, the foam will rise. Remove the coffee pot (cezve) from the heat just before it boils over. If you are using a machine, it will turn off automatically when the coffee is ready.

Step 6: Pour the Foam and Coffee

Pour some of the foam into each coffee cup first. Then, slowly pour the coffee, allowing the foam to remain on top. If using an automatic coffee machine, the coffee will already be prepared in the cup.

Serving Turkish Coffee

Your Turkish coffee is ready to drink. Let the coffee grounds settle at the bottom of the cup before drinking. Traditionally, Turkish coffee is served with a small glass of water, a custom enjoyed by many Turkish people.
